Name order and romanisation
Korean convention places the family name first. Indian documents vary — some give an undifferentiated single name, some place an initial standing for a father’s name first, some follow a convention with no distinct family name at all.
A Korean official reading an Indian document without guidance will frequently identify the wrong element as the family name, and once that enters a residence record it propagates into every subsequent document. We render the name as the source gives it and note which element is which, which prevents the error at the point it would otherwise occur.
Romanisation runs the other way. Where Korean names or institutions appear in documents being translated into English, the current official standard is Revised Romanisation, which superseded an older system still visible on many existing documents. An institution may appear one way on an older certificate and another on a current one.
We use the form the document itself carries and note the current standard where the two differ, so a reader can reconcile them rather than concluding they are different bodies.
If you already hold a Korean rendering of your name, on a prior visa or student record, send it. Consistency across a multi-year residence matters more than the individual choice.
Academic admission
Korean universities assess Indian qualifications under their own criteria and generally require complete transcripts rather than summaries.
As elsewhere we render qualifications as awarded without asserting a Korean equivalent, and we translate the grading legend from the reverse of Indian marksheets — without it an admissions office cannot interpret a CGPA against their own scale.
Many programmes also require documents to be submitted with apostille, and some require them sent directly by the issuing institution rather than by the applicant. Check the programme’s process before commissioning, since a translation you obtain separately may not satisfy a direct-submission requirement.
Employment documentation
Employment visas require contracts and experience letters, and where a contract is issued in Korean the version that governs is the Korean text.
That makes an accurate reading a practical matter rather than a formality — salary, duration, notice and termination conditions are what you are agreeing to. We translate these in full and literally, including terms that are unfavourable, because the operative wording is the point.
Apostille
South Korea is a Hague Convention member, so the apostille route applies rather than consular legalisation. In the usual case the Indian original is apostilled and the certified translation accompanies it. Confirm the sequence with the receiving institution before starting.
Financial documents for study visas
Korean student visas require proof of funds, and where a sponsor supports the application their financial documents come too.
Indian financial paperwork carries conventions a Korean official reads literally. Amounts written in lakh notation and Indian digit grouping are routinely misread as substantially smaller figures, and a cost-to-company salary figure is not take-home pay. We render amounts so the actual figure is unambiguous, name the currency explicitly, and add a note where an Indian convention would otherwise mislead rather than silently reformatting the numbers.
Where a sponsor’s relationship to the applicant has to be evidenced, the supporting birth or marriage certificate is translated alongside as part of the same set, so names and dates stay consistent across every document the officer compares.
