Nursing and healthcare documents are a category of their own
Kerala supplies healthcare workers to the Gulf, the UK, Ireland and elsewhere in numbers that make nursing documentation the defining category in this pair — and the most demanding.
Foreign nursing regulators do not simply read a translated certificate. They verify qualifications and registration directly with the issuing council or institution, and they are exacting about the correspondence between what you submit and what the institution confirms. A translation that renders a course title loosely, or that collapses a registration number’s formatting, creates a mismatch against the regulator’s own verification.
So for these documents we transcribe registration numbers, council names and course titles exactly, and we do not translate qualification names into foreign equivalents. Whether your qualification maps onto a foreign register is the regulator’s determination, made under their own framework, and a translator asserting an equivalence can only contradict it.
Send the complete set together — qualification certificate, marksheets, registration certificate, experience letters. Regulators assess them as a package and inconsistencies between separately translated documents are exactly what delays an application.
The SSLC book
Kerala’s SSLC record is a consolidated document rather than a single certificate, recording the date of birth alongside examination results. Across much of Kerala it functions as the operative proof of date of birth, in the way a birth certificate does elsewhere.
That gives it weight beyond school records. Foreign employers and regulators may rely on it for age verification, and a discrepancy between the SSLC date and a passport date is therefore a serious problem rather than a clerical one.
It is also a multi-page document, and people routinely photograph only the results page. Photograph all of it, including the pages that look administrative.
Gulf attestation, not apostille
Most Gulf destinations are outside the Hague Convention, so an apostille is of no use. The route is state authentication, then the Ministry of External Affairs, then the destination country’s mission in India.
For healthcare workers this chain is frequently applied to educational and professional documents that must also be verified by the regulator — two parallel processes with different timescales. Employers commonly set a joining date without accounting for either.
Tell us the deadline at the start. Where it is not achievable we will say so while you can still ask for an extension, which is more useful than a document that arrives late.
Script and names
Malayalam has a large character set with extensive conjunct forms, and handwritten entries in older registrar records are demanding to read accurately.
Name transliteration follows the general pattern — multiple defensible English spellings for one Malayalam name, producing mismatches against passports. Malayalam names also frequently incorporate a house or family name and an initial, which passports handle inconsistently, in much the same way as Tamil initials.
